Welcome to Le Chameleux

General Info

Tucked away in the quiet charm of Le Chameleux, this countryside restaurant feels like a place you stumble upon and instantly want to keep to yourself. The location itself sets the tone-peaceful, scenic, and far from the rush-making the overall dining experience feel relaxed and genuine from the moment you arrive.

Walking in, the atmosphere is simple but warm, the kind of setting where you can settle in without feeling rushed. The menu leans into regional specialties, and you can tell there’s a clear respect for local flavors. One of the standout dishes here is the trout-fresh, delicately prepared, and full of natural flavor. It’s the kind of plate that doesn’t try too hard but still leaves a lasting impression. Alongside that, the Pâtée Gaumais offers a more rustic bite, rich and satisfying, especially if you’re curious about traditional Belgian cuisine.

If you’re in the mood for something hearty, the Hoteuse delivers comfort in every bite, while a cold Birra pairs effortlessly with most of the menu. The balance between classic dishes and approachable flavors makes this spot appealing whether you’re a first-time visitor or someone returning after reading glowing reviews.

Service-wise, Le Chameleux keeps things practical and welcoming. The restaurant is good for kids, which makes it a nice stop for families exploring the area. There’s a dedicated kids’ menu, plus high chairs available, so younger diners are clearly part of the plan. Accessibility is also thoughtfully considered, with a wheelchair accessible entrance that makes the space more inclusive.

Payment is easy too, as credit cards are accepted-always a small but important detail when you’re traveling or just don’t want to worry about cash. The staff keep things friendly and efficient, striking that balance between attentive and laid-back.

What really stands out here isn’t just the food or the service, but how everything comes together. The location, the menu, and the overall vibe create a dining experience that feels authentic rather than staged. It’s the kind of place where you slow down, enjoy your meal, and leave feeling like you’ve discovered something quietly special.

What customers say?

“ Friendly atmosphere and staff. Excellent food. Go there, you won't be disappointed. ”

- Claude Balon (Papy C-Dreams - DJ) -

“ Quick stop at the Cameleon. We had very simple things because we weren't very hungry. A very good croque monsieur. Very good ham and cheese for only €4. The salad (extra) was very fresh. It could also be served with potatoes with bacon (€2.50). The menu is simple and shows that everything is homemade. The dishes I saw looked good and plentiful. The welcome was friendly. Nice decor. Restaurant lost in the middle of nature. It was cozy. To do again to eat a good dish this time. ”

- Loca Enza -

“ Great place / good food / enjoyed the fish Recommended place ”

- Wim de rooij -

“ Friendly staff and amazing food. We ordered the "Quiche fromage d'orval" and the local trout, my partner and I shared everything, and it came accompanied with delicous potatoes! 100% recommend. And the desserts was also incredible (banana split maison and crepe au sucre). ”

- Alejandro Rodriguez -

“ Restaurant and brewery on the border between France and Belgium (it's still in Belgium, though the border is just 3 meters past the bar's wall). The beers are very good, and the prices are very reasonable. The bar is located in a very quiet valley, and the road has virtually no traffic. Free parking is available in front of the bar. ”

- Andrea Campagnolo -

“ We've been eating this delicious trout with bacon-wrapped potatoes and salad for many years. A real delight, the whole family loves it. I recommend it. ”

- BENEDICTE GAVROY -

“ What a lovely restaurant! It's in the middle of nowhere, but it's worth the visit. I've been there twice. Once I enjoyed the potage maison and once the trout. Such friendly people, and the food was so delicious. ”

- Marjan van Eijck (MJ) -

“ Outstanding trout dish! Crispy outside, tender and moist inside. Served with delicious potatoes and a green salad with an amazing lemony dressing. We drive over an hour to go for lunch on occasion. Nice patio, many umbrellas for shade. Small play set for children in the nearby grassy area. ”
